THE ORIGIN OF COSMO CAT

COSMO CAT was a Funny Animal comic first published by Fox Comics in 1946.
It was created by legendary comic book artist/publisher L. B. Cole.
The name appearing on the strips was Pat Adams, although over at Pappy's Golden Age Comic Blogzine it was revealed that Pat Adams was a fictitious name. You can go to Pappy's Blogzine and read some more Cosmo Cat here, and also here, where it is revealed that Cosmo Cats main artist was Ellis Holly Chambers, and on many stories' splash pages one can spot the initials EC.

Cosmo Cat appears perfectly suited for very young comic readers, as the writing is roughly on a first or second grade level. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen stories so simple. The art by Chambers and others features characters with bold tapered outlines, and the comics were colored in the simplest red, blue, yellow, and green of the 40's. All in all, these are sweet and appealing little treasures!

In 1945, the world as we know it changed forever with the invention of the atomic bomb.
In the real world, it caused the death and suffering of hundreds of thousands of people.
In the comic book world, however, atomic radiation gave you SUPER POWERS!
Is it any wonder then why so many people prefer comic books over reality?

Weighing in at two pages, from COSMO CAT #3, 1946,
here is the incredible ORIGIN OF COSMO CAT!

  2. Yeah, the style is very basic, but you can tell the artist knows what he is doing.
